Zachary Avigan MD; IMS 2026: Predicting Multiple Myeloma Cure: Ultra-Low-Risk Patients Who Have Favorable Outcomes and Can Stop Therapy

GLASGOW, Scotland—Patients who achieved sustained measurable residual disease negativity for more than 24 months had significantly improved survival outcomes and could be categorized as cured. This isthe implication of findings from a retrospective analysis looking at predicting cure in myeloma reported at the International Myeloma Society 2026 Annual Meeting. Sarah Maxwell heard the details from study author Zachary Avigan MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Icahn School of Medicine in Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City, USA.

Luciano J. Costa MD PhD; IMS 2026: Teclistamab plus Daratumumab in Patients with Relapsed or Refractory Multiple Myeloma brings “Dramatic Reduction” of Progression Risk, Without Increased Risk of Death: MajesTEC-3 Phase Three Study Findings

GLASGOW, Scotland—A combination of the bi-specific T-cell engager antibody teclistamab (that targets both B-cell maturation antigen and CD-3) paired with the anti-CD-38 monoclonal antibody daratumumab markedly extended relapse-free survival, and improved overall survival among patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma in comparison with standard of care triplet therapy. This was in the international multi-center phase three MajesTEC-3 study reported at the 2026 Annual Meeting of the International Myeloma Society. Sarah Maxwell caught up with lead author Luciano Costa MD PhD, Professor of Medicine and Director of the Multiple Myeloma Research and Treatment Program at the University of Alabama, in Birmingham, USA.
